What is Microneedling?

How Does Microneedling Work?
Collagen is an essential protein that aids in keeping skin looking youthful, with a texture that’s firm, smooth and stretchy. Aging causes a decline of collagen and other beneficial compounds in the skin, which contributes to wrinkles and other signs of aging. Collagen in the skin can also decrease because of injuries, acne scarring, stretch marks or other imperfections.
The micro-punctures caused by microneedling are controlled injury to the skin, which cause the body to react.
Microneedling will normally take several weeks to notice results. Typically, to achieve maximum benefit, a course of microneedling treatments is recommended (4-6 treatments, generally), often combined with other skin treatments. The skin may continue increased collagen production for up to six months following a treatment.
Advantages of Microneedling
Microneedling treatment is relatively quick, requiring typically 30-45 minutes for a facial treatment, but can vary depending on the extent of the area being treated and requires minimal, if any downtime.
Aside from a few days of redness and possible swelling, there are no serious post-treatment concerns. Makeup may generally be worn the day after the procedure, and the patient should remain out of direct sun until the affected area heals.
